Das 2-CD-Set “A Man And His Music” trägt den Untertiel “An anthology of the musical career of the most exciting entertainer of our time” (etwa: “Eine Auslese der Musikkarriere des aufregendsten Entertainers unserer Zeit”) und ist eine Zusammenstellung von Liedern aus Sinatras bisheriger Reprise-Zeit, die zugleich eine Art „Rückblick“ auf seine Zeit bei Dorsey, Columbia und Capitol ist und auch einige seiner damals populären Reprise-Hits beinhaltet.
Lediglich drei Lieder spielte Sinatra für diese Zusammenstellung neu ein, nämlich „I’ll Never Smile Again“, „Come Fly With Me“ (beide am 11. Oktober 1965) und „Love And Marriage“ (am 21. Oktober 1965).
Allerdings sind es nicht die Lieder, die dieses Set so besonders machen (schließlich kann man alle Lieder mit den drei obigen Ausnahmen bereits auf anderen Platten finden) – für viele Lieder nahm Sinatra ergänzende, gesprochene Einleitungen und Kommentare auf und so erleben wir auf dieser Platte nicht nur den Sänger Sinatra, sondern auch den Erzähler Sinatra, der auf sein Leben beziehungsweise seine Karriere zurückblickt.
