"Down by the Old Mill Stream" wurde 1908 von Tell Taylor geschrieben, als Taylor am Ufer des Blanchard River in Findlay, Ohio, saß. Es wurde am 12. August 1910 veröffentlicht und der Öffentlichkeit durch Auftritte des Vaudeville-Quartetts "The Orpheus Comedy Four" vorgestellt. Nachdem die Gruppe das Lied in einem Woolworth-Geschäft in Kansas City aufgeführt hatte, wurde es so beliebt, dass der Laden alle 1.000 Exemplare der Notenblätter verkaufte, die Taylor mitgebracht hatte.
Sinatra sang den Song als Medley (Down By The Old Millstream - I Begged Her) am 10.04.1946 in seiner Radiosendung "Songs By Sinatra" zusammen mit Gene Kelly.

"Down by the Old Mill Stream" is a song penned by Tell Taylor in 1908, inspired by the tranquil setting of the Blanchard River in Findlay, Ohio. The song was released on August 12, 1910, and was first introduced to the public through performances by the vaudeville quartet, "The Orpheus Comedy Four." Following a performance at a Woolworth store in Kansas City, the song gained immense popularity, leading to the sale of all 1,000 copies of the sheet music that Taylor had brought with him.
Frank Sinatra, in collaboration with Gene Kelly, performed this song as part of a medley (Down By The Old Millstream - I Begged Her) on his radio show, "Songs By Sinatra," on April 10, 1946.
